Recently a group of residents took a day trip to the Blue Lotus Farm & Retreat in Wisconsin to relax and enjoy the great outdoors, participating in boating, nature walks, fishing and more. But this trip to enjoy nature wasn’t just for good times – it was also a veritable brain health extravaganza!

The Nexus program uses six pillars of activities, based the latest in research, to help residents build and maintain cognitive ability. The Blue Lotus camp adventure included many activities that fit right in with Nexus offerings back at the community!

  • Physical Exercise – Activities like rowing, pedaling and hiking have been proven to help slow cognitive decline and increase the volume of the hippocampus.
  • Stress Reduction – Being in the outdoors and surrounded by the beauty of nature can help lower blood pressure and reduce overall stress
  • Purposeful Social Activities – Keeping active in social situations, particularly involving helpful and meaningful interactions, has been shown to slow the decline of some individuals
