Tips To Building and Maintaining A Loving Relationship

“Where your focus goes love grows.”

We should treat our relationship like a beautiful delicate flower; nurturing it; giving it all the loving essential ingredients to thrive; remove weeds as they emerge and avoid toxins, then enjoy the beauty that unfolds as it blossoms and grows.

Nurturing our relationships:

“Nurturing a feeling makes it proliferate Choose wisely. Joy, kindness love and caring will illuminate your life.”  – Amy Leigh Mecree.

Success in anything requires our time and attention. The more value we place on our relationship, the easier it is to put forth a healthy effort. No relationship can thrive without a nurturing environment in which both partners feel loved.

Add loving ingredients:

There are many key ingredients that contribute towards a healthy partnership:

  • Effective communication
  • Mutual Respect
  • Loyalty
  • Honesty
  • Companionship
  • Forgiveness
  • Flexibility
  • Attraction

Each partner requires different levels of ingredient to feel loved and cared for.

Gary Chapman’s “The 5 Love languages,” is a great resource to define our emotional needs.

Remove toxins in your relationship:

When toxic behaviors start to appear in a relationship they must be dealt with immediately. The more you allow unhealthy behavior the more out of control it becomes and will eventually destroy a loving relationship. “Life is 10% what happens and 90% how you react to it.” Charles R. Swindoll.

Keep relationship toxin free by:

  • Keep communication open and honest; discuss issues.
  • Show mutual respect to each other; what is said in anger cannot be undone.
  • Show interest in each other’s lives; listen because you care.
  • Do not establish inappropriately close relationships with the opposite sex.
  • Make sure both partners feel like a priority in each other’s lives.

Loyalty and honesty are imperative for emotional security in a relationship.

When we treat our relationship as a beautiful growing living entity, we develop deep roots, grow stronger and become more beautiful with time.
