One thing I have experience with (more than I would like to admit) is in starting over. Whether this is because of a change in passion, financial status, divorce or unforeseen events; I have encountered my share of transition, which started with things falling apart. This time in any person’s life can be overwhelming, confusing and downright frustrating. But even though being ‘in’ this time can appear daunting – my experience shows that beyond the overwhelm awaits opportunities for growth and fulfillment.

Recently I’ve had numerous clients share with me that they are feeling lost and overwhelmed with the current state of their businesses. After years of being successful (according to society’s definition), they were feeling unfulfilled and without clear direction. I shared with them my experience and how often times our lives recalibrate themselves in order to prepare for something even more amazing to enter.

If you are experiencing uncertainty, confusion or overwhelmed in your business; consider these 3 tips to guide you along:

Trust that your expertise is enough

There will always be a new generation of entrepreneurs, complete with fresh ideas and shiny certifications. This does not negate your experience and expertise. It merely highlights areas in which you can continue to grow and be relevant in your industry. Educate yourself on new technologies and industry standards to stay ‘competitive’ and up-to-date.

Imagine the possibilities

When you’re feeling lost and lack the direction to move forward, a good place to start is with your imagination. Just like children who have no problems dreaming up their next adventure, so should you in dreaming up the future of your work. Find a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed and simply take 5-10 minutes to close your eyes, and begin imagining what your ideal business, career and work-life looks like. How much time will you spend in your business? Who do you want to serve?

Look for the signs

Often times when we really want something to happen we forget to look for our answers after we’ve put it out there. If you are pondering on whether or not you should change the direction of your business, ask for a sign. This can come from the universe, inner-self, whatever resonates with you. The important part is that you ask – and once you ask you keep your eyes (mind and heart) open for a sign to let you know whether you are on the right path, or if you need to go in a new direction.

These 3 tips have helped me immensely throughout my times of uncertainty. Once you open yourself to the possibilities of a better and brighter future; you will be well on your way to creating the business that inspires and fulfills you.
