If you are a woman of a certain age, and you haven’t heard of the “We Do Not Care Club”, you might want to listen up!

One year ago, a very tired, very lost and very unknown woman named Melanie Sanders, sat in her car and decided that she had some things that she needed to get off her chest. You see, Melanie was going through some changes. Her page had been primarily focused on her perimenopause journey and the struggles she’d been facing. But what she came to say that day would change her life and the lives of so many women like her forever.

The Movement Began

After a run of the mill trip to the grocery store, she decided that even though her sports bra was too small and maybe her socks didn’t match, she just simply did not care anymore! This new chapter of her life had led her to the realization that some things just aren’t worth stressing over and boy did the women in the back get the message. Her video and several others that followed went viral. She quickly became the real, relatable and HILARIOUS face of the Menopause Movement. And the Official We Do Not Care Club or WDNC was born.

 We Don’t Care

Her videos were filled with thousands of comments of women sharing all of the things that they just ‘didn’t care’ about anymore. Things like, “We do not care if the same clothes have been in the dryer for three days. Wearing wrinkled clothes never killed anyone.”  “We do not care that our house is not neat and tidy. That’s on you. You should have come on cleaning day!” “We don’t care if we haven’t shaved any of our places in weeks. Hair is hair. If you don’t like it, don’t look.”

The movement spread like wildfire and before long, women from all over the word were creating their own ‘We Do Not Care’ videos. From every corner of the world, women began creating local chapters of the ‘We Do Not Care Club’. Melanie and her movement became a household name almost overnight. It quickly led to spots on local and national news channels, countless podcasts and shows like The View and the Sherri Shepherd show. Eventually leading to her being named People Magazine’s Creator of the Year in 2025! Soon after came a New York Times Best Selling book called “The Official We Do Not Care Club Handbook: A Hot-Mess Guide for Women in Perimenopause, Menopause, and Beyond Who Are Over It.

 Permission to Exhale

To say her message has struck a chord is an understatement. Women carry so many things on our shoulders. Between our families, careers, other people’s expectations of us, the pressure has all just become too much. Melanie gave us all permission to stop sweating the small stuff and actually exhale. Besides, with these horrific hot flashes, we are sweating enough as it is.

Things I just don’t care about anymore:
  • I do not care if we’ve had rice as a side dish three nights in a row. It’s hot, it’s tasty. If you don’t like it, don’t eat it.
  • I do not care that my toenails haven’t been properly pedicured in over a year. My toes are out if the sun is out. If you don’t approve, that’s on you!
  • I do not care that I haven’t made my bed today, or yesterday or the day before that. It’s always ready for me when I’m crashing into it. That’s called a faithful friend if you ask me!

So let’s all agree to embrace our inner Melanie when the stress or pressure or ridiculousness of our lives start to really weigh us down, let’s take a minute to let go of the things that are no longer serving us and that we just don’t need to care about today. I’d love to hear the things that you just don’t care much about anymore in the comments!
