How did you wake up this morning? Was it by a loud buzzing alarm clock? Did you hit the snooze button? Was it by a child crying out for you? Did you wake up on your own without any assistance? Did you look at the clock that displayed 6:38am and in your head say “when the clock reads 6:40am I’ll get up” continuing this minute by minute delay until you absolutely needed to get out of bed; however, now you are running late. Were you dreading the day or were you going about your “normal” day-to-day cycle of being YOU? Do you look in the mirror in the morning and like who you see and/or what your life consists of?

How you answer these questions will determine who you will allow to drive your proverbial life “bus”. If you dread your day or dislike some aspect of your life, then you are letting someone or something else drive your life “bus”. From self-degradation to a lack of a job or a non-fulfilling job, to a great relationship to an abusive situation, the list can go on and on.

YOU must be the person to drive your own life “bus”! “Drivers” come in all shapes and sizes. They can be people, or feelings, or excuses. For example, there is a person I work with who makes me crazy!!! Whether interacting or just hearing her voice, I get worked up. My attitude shifts, I whine to coworkers, then shut down and stew. I have now gone from being the driver of MY “bus” to a passenger allowing my coworker to drive. In fact, not only have I allowed her to drive my “bus” but kick me off and run me over with it!

Regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual preference, political affiliation, polka dotted or stripped, we give “bus” keys away to whomever or whatever driver and then complain that we “don’t like _______ because of __________ or if only this or that then ________” (fill in the blank). It is time to pull up the big girl panties and/or boy undies and take back your driving responsibilities. YOU are responsible for your life. No one and nothing can make you feel, do, act, etc. without YOU giving into their request in some way. No one is going to stand up for you and have your back 100% except for YOU! Once you take ownership of this, then those mornings will become less difficult. When you look in the mirror, you will see a person of value, of beauty, of strength, of courage, of determination. YOU have one guaranteed job in life – YOU are your own life “bus” driver!
