In conversations about “bigger futures,” it can be easy to leap ahead. We picture where we want to be. We make lists. We set targets. We start taking those baby steps that build the momentum that will carry us forward…

But there’s a key element to all this “going There” energy that often goes unmentioned, and it’s something deeply, deeply important.

And that’s a thing we like to call honouring the road that brought you Here.

Where you are Now is beautiful and worthy in its own right. Every choice, every risk, every experiment and yes, even every detour — everything that happened on the road that brought you Here all matters.

Each mile of the road behind you is an essential part of the strength, resilience, and wisdom that makes the next mile possible.

And it’s imperative to keep that in mind so that we’re clear – crystal clear – in the intention behind our forward motion: We’re not running away from where we are. This is not the great escape. Instead, we’re choosing, consciously, where we want to go, from a place of deep satisfaction and pride at just how far we’ve already come. Because when we root ourselves in gratitude and pride, not in deficit or dissatisfaction, our vision for the future becomes less about fleeing, and more about becoming.

You can be proud of where you’ve been…Proud of where you are…And still want a bigger future.

Because without being Here, you can’t possibly get There.

So, as you think about your own bigger future, I invite you to pause for a moment. Look back. Take stock. Breathe it in. Remember the worth of the road you’ve already traveled, even as you choose the next steps toward the future that you dare to imagine, for what an extraordinary journey it has been. And (insert deep sigh of gratitude) just imagine how good it’s going to get.
