Life would be so much easier for me and less stressful if I was a Felix Unger instead of an Oscar Madison like in the comedy, ‘The Odd Couple.’ I have spent countless hours looking for keys, purses and important papers. I always have the best of intentions. “I’ll put the keys here on the dresser,” I decide, “and of course, I’ll remember where I put them.” Wrong!!! At the time I thought it was a fool-proof plan, but now I can’t remember where I put them!

So here I am, once again in a fruitless search for my lost items. I wander throughout my home aimlessly muttering to myself, “I really should be more organized, it would save me so much time and aggravation.”

I like to think of myself as happy go lucky and the life of the party. So, unfortunately playing the role of Felix Unger doesn’t come easily to me. I definitely lean more towards being an Oscar Madison. Live for the moment, throw caution to the wind, and your socks on the floor!!

However, I do get tired of looking for everything all the time! I need a plan of organization to follow, a to-do list where I can finally get organized. And, after all, we all know how satisfying it is to put a check mark triumphantly next to a completed chore.

So, I begin a new way of doing my everyday work. When I go to the mailbox, I sort the mail as soon as I get in the door. I put all the bills in a pile on top of my laptop computer. I then go through the rest and I’m able to toss quite a few advertisements and junk mail. Yeah, I’m on my way to a lifetime of order and peace, I blissfully believe.

I wander throughout my home aimlessly muttering to myself, “I really should be more organized, it would save me so much time and aggravation.'Then I try to do the laundry and fold it and then comes the dreaded chore of putting it away. I get through washing drying and folding and that’s where my challenge occurs. I put the folded laundry on a chair and keep adding to the pile until it is overflowing. With a deep sigh, I carry the mound of clothes upstairs to put away. All the while, I am chastising myself for letting the laundry pile up. Next time, I promise myself, I will put away each load when it is done. Right!?!

One time, I finally cleaned out the back of my 1992 Ford Explorer and found that I had been driving around for years with my 1979 high school year book in the rear! Yes, if you don’t throw things away, you will eventually find them; if you need them or not.

I want to be organized and know where everything is, just like Felix Unger. However, my life of the party personality seems destined to keep me an Oscar Madison.
